Default bang under hard braking and launching

hi all

my car has done this for ever, and i remember seeing a thread about it previously.

From time to time, not every time if i launch my car or jump on the brakes really hard - i.e. abs going off i get a really solid bang from under the car. now I'm pretty sure it is either the engine or transmission hitting the underside of the car, but i am just wondering what does it and what the solution is - i.e. stiffer engine/trans mounts or is it the dog bone mount that isn't stiff enough

any ideas

and no there are no broken mounts etc, and it is not a suspension or brake noise but more a super solid bang when the car is jumping around.

cheers

Tom

Rear subframe has no bushes, locked solid to the chassis, but the bang is defiantly from the front, like under the drivers feet towards the centre. I have never been able to see any marks etc under the car but i read somewhere on pwrx about this before.

You have to either have serious hopping in the front when launching or be under super hard abs braking, where the car jumps around, so not under normal driving..

You are rather...umm ...agressive on your car Mr Trembarth!!
It could be the intercooler hitting something (eg strut brace?) ...my '06 STI used to do that before we put Group N engine mounts in...it's also worth while putting the Group N gearbox mount in...

I got the gearbox one via Japan Parts but I think the engine mounts were through MMS...

Is there some play in the prop shaft? Could be sliding back and forth slightly. Just a thought ..

Seems I now have the same issue......I'm thinking either G/box mount or Pitch stopper in my case.

No play in anything, shafts all tight, bushes all good/solid

Could be weak transmount i have never changed it although its not broken. Feels more to the front of the car though, feels more firewall, could be the intercooler
