Default Compressor Surge

Can compressor surge be tuned out of a car? I'm getting it with my vf34 a bit, and it's annoying... Car is getting serviced and dyno tuned next week, just wondering if that will sort it out?

Cheers

Brett

It's more a matter of physics I'd imagine.

If you have an aftermarket BOV loosen it up slightly, if possible.

I think it's pretty common amongst VF series turbo range once you've improved flow, etc - such as fitting silicon intake pipes, pod filters, upgraded intercoolers, etc.

Sorry guys, I have Apexi pod filter, silicon intake, VF34, FMIC, Blitz DD BOV.

I know I had the BOV turned fairly tight to reduce any early opening, will loosen it up a bit tonight and see if that helps..

Cheers

You're probably gonna have to live with it based on your set-up. A bigger turbo will fix it!

Loosen your bov it will help mate.

Instead of the air getting forced back throught the turbo and getting chopped up by the blades it will get released out the bov so it will not happen and will reduce it alot.

The best way to fis it is to put your stock BOV back on.

Quote:
Negative effects with aftermarket BOVs. The downside of releasing the air to atmosphere is that it has already been metered by the mass air sensor, and when it blows off, the ECU will be injecting the wrong amount of fuel into the cylinders. The engine temporarily runs extremely rich, meaning too much fuel is injected into the cylinders.

This temporary rich condition isn’t usually that harmful, but it can cause bucking or hesitation on lift-throttle. If the condition is really bad, it can eventually foul spark plugs and even clog the catalytic converter as unburned fuel on the catalytic converter burns very hot, and too much of it can melt the cat.

Can my tuner or engine management tune out this rich period? No.
