The top end has been ok on the TD04, it sits on 13.5psi up to around 5500 rpm then dips to 10psi by 7000. I usually change just after it hits 6000 rpm anyhow as it seems stay on boost if I am quick on the changes. This rex is my family car so I want to keep it as drivable as possible.

The other reason I'm picking a TD04 is its cheaper and my clutch is on the way out as its has 100,000kms on it.

I appreciate all the advice though, when I start building a weekend car I'll start getting more serious about squeezing every last drop of power out of the engine.
