Lightbulb Big Turbo small turbo

Run a Big Turbo @ less boost or a small turbo @ more boost.

Pros, cons, benifits?

consider response, boost threshold, cfms, fueling, intercooler selection, wastegates, boost control?

A decision a-lot of us make and there isn't one clear answer anymore..

All within reason I'd say.. A monster turbo will be a lag machine no way around it, but a 'larger' rather than 'smaller' turbo will give same or more power on less boost, lower intake temps, less stress on turbo and iternals etc...

I would think a bigger turbo running the same boost as a smaller turbo will push more CFM's (and again much cooler)

Boost control would be easier with a bigger turb/lower boost than the other way around wouldn't it??

My 2c,

Stick with a hp target of around 400hp. A turbo of that capacity can flow enough on moderate boost levels and maintain some decent response.

nar just kiddin round as explicit said somethin between 400-500hp turbo rating even if a bit laggy to start with that alright you can always work on it by reducing lag in many ways.. it all depends what ya want outta the car at the end of the day and what cash ya wanna put in... there is no BEST setup

i am sure this has been said many times

I'm with Jme.

My FP 20G is rated to around 400-450ish, and with my cars first shake down run with the new setup, it hit full spool at 3300rpm

Heads and cams do contribute to great spool, but its an indication of how good you can get a 450HP turbo to respond.
