Spare tire a necessity?
Hey guys :)
One my friends recently told me he never carry's his spare anymore. He uses this foam thing in a can i think its called fix a flat, basically it fills your tire with foam and its good for 3 days so you can get tire fixed in the meantime Can anyone vouch for this? I mean Im not fussed by i like idea of ditching 20kgs from car. |
What size is your spare? 5x100?
My current spare is wrong size, but I still drive. I've read that tyre shops hate the foam shit when they change the tyre but that's not really your problem at the end of the day. |
Yea its 5x100 max speed 80kpr from a 09 wrx

Yeah I ditched mine, it's only 17" and my wheels are now 18" so I don't even think it would serve a purpose now. I carry some tyre repair stuff just in case.

You are required to carry a spare tyre.
You can be yellow stickered for not carrying a spare tyre. In reality, you wont get yellow stickered for this alone, it will be dark tint, oil leaks, BOV's that vent to atmosphere, loose batterys, car too low, exhaust too loud, no cat converter and non-working headlights that will be the primary cause for a yellow. No spare tyre will simply be added to the list. Clear as mud? :) |
If you ever head out of the metro area I would carry a spare

Matt ... Does a can of tyre repair shit count?
|
Afaik evo x's don't have a spare tyre from factory and have that tyre repair shit the boot
|
Many new cars do not come with a spare at all.
Some have a can of foam, some (like the new MINI) have runflats. The foam will leave a mess inside the tyre, but in reality once a low profile tyre has been driven on at all when flat, then any tyre shop will replace it & not repair it. |
