Exactly, Ive done similar on all new cars and have plenty of mates over east who have had built motors do the same. It needs to be revved to 5k here and there. No freeway / cruising at speed.
surely the people who rebuilt it would give you the run in process?
No direct/indirect reference to fisting, has the world gone mad?

thanks guys,

thats about the general consensus - in terms of how to drive it and when to drop the oil. Will take everyone's advice and make sure I follow suit. I know its got a 6 month warranty but i'd rather be safe than sorry.

Thanks guys for the help,
Merc
I've heard a few as below:

Don't keep it at constant revs - eg, cruising down the freeway on cruise control

Do vary loads on the engine - eg go up Greenmount hill in a few different gears to help bed in the rings

Don't rev out to red line nor keep it below say 2500rpm.

Work the engine in gradually over 1000kms then drop the oil and give it a good flush, full back up with recommended oil.

All, some or none of these may be correct. Just different things I've heard along the way.
What he says ^^^ I think the main thing is don't drive at constant speeds for to long and vary the load on the engine by changing down occasionally on long stretches of road. Up and down some hills is a good idea if you have nothing better to do and don't overstress the engine by over revving. It worked for me and up till now have never had to add a drop of oil between changes :D
