Where is your sensor? Between the oil cooler and the block?
Nope, it's in the blocks upper rear right hand main oil gallery - fitted via an OEM oil gallery adapter.

I'll find the pics

Whats everyones oil pressure then, ie cold isle, hot idle, hot max? I only have a defi pressure gauge, sensor at stock oil light hole.

Here's a pic of where my Defi oil Temp sensor is located.

Top left of the pic is the turbo compressor outlet, on the right is the Throttle body.

This gallery feeds the RH head & turbo.

Temp sensors in sandwhich plates only give you the oil temp after the heat exchanger (oil 'cooler') which is a false reading..........Info care of Crawford Motorsport.

Cold idle 600kpa (87Psi)

200kpa (30 psi) at idle @ Operating temp - 700kpa (101Psi) from 1500 rpm to redline (8400rpm) - Defi sensor in factory position too.

On 5w40 United GX Racing PAO Synthetic.

s20525xxx 15-02-2015 08:44 AM

650kpa cold idle. 210kpa hot idle @750rpm. 710kpa @~5300+rpm. Penrite racing 10w40.

I was told thats too thick?

Oil pressure doesn't keep an engine alive (as opposed to popular belief) oil flow does.

Why? because it removes heat from the bearings & keeps you oil below the temp at which it loses film strength - it's the oils film strength that prevents metal/metal contact.

So what oil analysis data represent heat transfer ability? Thx

Conventional used oil analysis tests do not measure film strength.
Engine oil should be around 80 to 90 degC depending how hard your driving. Sounds like your gauge or sensor is faulty
WHS^^ on normal driving, however I have a sandwich plate instead of connecting it to the oil gallery

Coolant temp is 90 deg +2/-~4 degs connected to the top rad hose

both using Defi link BF gauges

johnvk7 20-02-2015 10:04 AM

THe oil pressure and flow rates given in the workshop manual are given at an oil temp of 120degC, so I would say that an oil temp of between 40 and 60 degC is less then optimum for fuel economy and performance
