Default Are all Subaru 5MT box same?

Question: Are all Subaru 5MT box same? I'm talking about the actual box/casing not the internals or the diff

Example, can a gearbox from a liberty go onto any year WRX, assuming you had the matching diff to go with it

the casings do vary from the early to lade models, eg the bell housing is held on 4 4 bolts in the earlier, compared to 6 in the later models

however, they wil all bolt in without a hassle accross the whole lineup

if it has an ej, it'll slot into it

bumping this up as a few ppl have enquired this

can anyone else confirm this to give guys that are interested in putting a MY05 Liberty Turbo (from JDM) onto a rex, RS, forrie confidence all will work?

i've spoken to a couple of guys (tech heads) over east (Rexnet) and both have agreed there is no issue in putting this box onto other subaru turbos, as per what denver said above

- pre 99 all 5 speeds were 4 bolt housings
- post 99 all 5 speeds were 8 bolt housings
- the mountings are identicle, although the 4 bolt housing gearboxes have a different starter motor to 8 bolt housing boxes, the starters are interchangeable, the difference is in the castings of the starter and drop gears in the starter engagement.
- post 04 jdm boxes went to plug in shafts on the 5 speed box, this requires modern front drive shafts
- tail shafts do not change
- post 04 jdm boxes also went to a pull type clutch housing, which had a different fork/slave cylinder arrangement.
- clutch will require changeing for this.
- depending on the model (diameter) of the slave cylinder you may need an upgraded master cylinder to cater for the extra fluid required to push the clutch.

aslong as you have the supporting bits, nothings impossible... as far as the liberty varients... im not sure on the specifics.
