Swapping Centre Diff
 

Hey guys,

I think my centre diff bearings are gone in my gc8. I have my old box (broken 2nd gear) which everything else is fine, and so i dont have to worry about pressing bearings im going to swap the centre diff and output shaft over.

My query is the shim on the output shaft; Do i swap it over as well? (ie does the shim match the bearings or variance in the gearbox housing?) or does it not even matter...

How did you conclude your centre diff is done? Any symptoms? Asking out if curiosity, as I didn't know this was a thinv that blew.

Horrible grinding sound that goes up and down with speed. Doesn't change with RPM, gears, clutch in or out.

I listened to a few youtube videos of centre diff bearings and the sound is the same.

Without breaking the box open obviously its impossible to pinpoint definitively, but i am hopeful as it seems relatively easy to get to the centre diff while in the car and i have a spare to go in. If its not ill probably cry! haha!
