Swapping Centre Diff
Hey guys,
I think my centre diff bearings are gone in my gc8. I have my old box (broken 2nd gear) which everything else is fine, and so i dont have to worry about pressing bearings im going to swap the centre diff and output shaft over. My query is the shim on the output shaft; Do i swap it over as well? (ie does the shim match the bearings or variance in the gearbox housing?) or does it not even matter... Thanks! |

How did you conclude your centre diff is done? Any symptoms? Asking out if curiosity, as I didn't know this was a thinv that blew.

Horrible grinding sound that goes up and down with speed. Doesn't change with RPM, gears, clutch in or out.
I listened to a few youtube videos of centre diff bearings and the sound is the same. Without breaking the box open obviously its impossible to pinpoint definitively, but i am hopeful as it seems relatively easy to get to the centre diff while in the car and i have a spare to go in. If its not ill probably cry! haha! |
