yep, going oil temp as he has oil pressure already in the alternator location (I got it wrong in the first post), and yes trying to remove the blanking plug.

He was thinking about the easy out option, but my concern is that it might not be long enough for enough 'grab' and if you drill right through you'll get metal in the oil galleys. And then if it still doesn't come out he has a hole in his engine :s

So I take it this third galley plug does not exist?

I might be wrong, so don't laugh. I had oil pressure near alternator, oil temp was put near crossover pipe when engine was rebuilded. Would that be the one?

There's a third similar looking plug on the top of the block, but it's not usable because of the location of the coolant crossover pipe (and it might not even be an oil galley plug).

I'm the same as Rossco, I use the rear top bung as oil temp with stable oil temp, though sometimes the gauge plays up

Thanks for the responses all. Third plug definitely ruled out then, might have to get creative, maybe get a welder in there and sacrifice a hex bit for the greater good :/
