Cleaning MAF Sensor
 

Hi gang...

Suspect my MAF sensor (MY99) has had the fritz... recently started running like it's on kangaroo juice for short random periods. Crap fuel is not suspected. I remember some time ago someone posting a method for cleaning the sensor, can anyone point me in that direction? Just wanna investigate this option before forking out $$$ for a newie. Done a search with no luck...

I know with AFM's you use 'Electrical Contact Cleaner' from a spray can on the sensor to clean it - not sure about MAF though sorry

Any more informed opinions/knowledge on this subject?

^^^ What he said. Contact cleaner in an aerosol can is what you use to clean the air flow meter, without damaging it.

MAF and AFM are the same thing.

So MAF & AFM are the same thing (I suspected as much)... feel like such a noob!

Cheerz, thanx for the info. Got a can of that stuff as every1 seems to call on me to fix their water dunked mobiles & stuff. I'll give it a fly ;) .

On the subject of cleaning do you have to take the whole AFM out and then spray it?

And then leave it to dry and put back in?

As mine is starting to drop 100-200rpm and then back to normal so i just want to give it a clean to see how it goes!

I can understand words that are too common, but seriously, words that are too long/short?

I agree - the vbulletin 3-characters-or-less is too short search rule is mostly retarded.

I have cleaned a few...
Remove the unit after taking out the security screws and connector, note orientation. Take care when pulling it out, there is an "O" ring that makes it very tight.

Using some isopropyl alcohol, or CH3CHOHCH3 if you speak that language, give the sensor surfaces a good clean with cotton wool buds.
If thats in short supply try metho, without the cordial :tongue3:

Give the surface a good wipe with a cotton wool bud and isopropyl alcohol.
Ensure you remove any excess cleaner and allow adequate time to dry, shake lightly if required. Put some rubber lube on the O ring and reinstall, refit connectors. Then test drive.
