Cruise Control Stopped Working

Then worked again, now stopped. The light on the button lights up. I've checked the fuse. Tabbing the set position does nothing.

Any ideas? MY99 RX, I assume it's the same as most other models. Who uses their cruise control anyway??? I do...

Is the CEL on?
CEL error can disable cruise control.

check the vacume lines in the engine bay to cruise ?

Under normal condition the cruise will not engage if you have your foot
on the brake or clutch.

Perhaps the micro-switches on your clutch/brake pedals are faulty or dirty so
it thinks you have your foot on one of them.

Time to put your head up under dash and check them. Pull them out if you
can and check they open/close correctly with a multi-meter.

I am so afraid of using cruise control when I've heard of cases where the car doesn't stop. Applying the brakes will mean cooking the entire braking system and the car had to crash into something in order to stop.

Will the coppers give an exception if we do 200 above the limit in this case ? :D

The cruise control is fairly safe...in fact, Subaru issued a recall a while ago to fix a possible fault in one of the clips that holds the cruise control cable in place.

If the cruise control malfunctioned and the car didnt stop, all you'd need to do is whack the car in neutral or clutch in, turn off the ignition and hit the brakes.

Cruise control is safe but can be tempermentally unreliable. Operating the clutch etc switches it off. so as per advice from FOBZ, check for false signals from the clutch.

Simple... Turn the engine off and put foot on clutch.

I have never used my cruise control, you obviously do alot of country driving.
But yeh if you have a CEL error, the cruise control light will constantly flash and you can't use cruise control.

BALISTC 09-08-2006 01:38 PM

...not to mention the check engine light would be turned on, which I'm sure he would have noticed well before he realised the cruise control didnt work.
