WRX 17x7 rims & tyres on non-WRX Impreza
Hello from a Subaru newbie
I have just purchased a standard Subaru Impreza 2010 hatchback. The tyres will need replacing soon so I am considering purchasing some second-hand 17inch OEM Subaru rims with tyres instead of just replacing the tyres as there are WRX owners out there that have upgraded to other rims. My Impreza currently has the following standard set up: Rims: 16 x 6.5 rims, 55 offset Tyres: 205/55/R16 I note that the 2010 Impreza RS ‘Special Edition’ has the 17x7 WRX rims with 205/50/R17 tyres (same width?) and that the offset for the 2010 WRX rims are 55 with PCD 5x100. So I’m assuming the OEM rims that are 17x7 with 55 offset and PCD5x100 will fit my car without an issues. Please let me know if this is not correct. The various suitable WRX rims (17x7, 55 offset) including some 2010 ones seem to have 225/45/R17 tyres on them, I understand that the circumference difference from my current standard wheels means that there will be some marginal differences but these will actually help correct the speedo’s accuracy. The additional 20mm width of the 225 tyre on the 17inch rim means that the tyre is supposed to be 10mm closer to the suspension and 10mm closer to the guard than the stock and 205/50/R17 set ups. The rims I'm guessing will be about 6mm or so closer to the suspension and guard with the 1/2 inch increase in rim width. Is this going to cause any issues for my standard 2010 Impreza hatchback? In summary I’d just like to know if the OEM Subaru rims that are 17x7, 55 offset and have 225/45/R17s will fit and work OK on my car. Advice appreciated for a Subaru newbie (who has already completed an intro post) |

The 2006-2007 WRX rims are offered from factory for the Impreza RS as you said, there won't be any significant differences between your car and an RS in that regard and they'll fit fine. If you can, try to find a set with 225/45R17 tyres - these were offered on the later GD chassis WRX (2005-2007) and will be a lot closer to the correct rolling diameter for your car. Keep in mind that there'll be a speedometer difference between bald and new tyres too.
Here's a good website to compare what will happen when you change the wheels. 205/55R16 vs. 225/45R17 205/55R16 vs. 225/50R17t |
