I've been toying with the idea of getting a smaller wheel for years now because I like the steering input and the "racy" feel. The dilemma has always been the complications from authorities for removing the airbag.

The idea for an sti wheel has come up a few times but it still seems a bit big. As far as I'm aware, the standard MOMO wheel is 385mm and the STi is 375mm.

I'm curious to know if anyone has felt any differences in the steering input with the STi wheel, only being 10mm smaller. Since it has an airbag it may be the better way to go.

Alternatively, any other options with airbags?

Got an STI quick rack? 2.7 turns against 3.4 I think of the WRX, Makes a huge difference if I get into a WRX after driving mine, I can't see 1cm ( 5mm each side ) making much difference after a week or two of driving whereas you'll always notice the faster rack, that is assuming GD's are the same as GC's.

The 10mm makes a massive difference (gf agrees)

Between the MOMO and the newer GD wheels, I have run all 3 types in my car. Finally settled on the 05 wheel and that is the favorite out the lot.

This is the result. 05 wheel is slightly chunkier on the top part compared to the 02/03 but feels a lot more solid in hand.

You will need the wheel and clock spring to suit. Or alternatively because the 03+ clock springs aren't a perfect fit in the bug steering column, you can chop the airbag plug and keep the Bug one but cruise control won't work unless you chop and rewire that as well.

The spec c quickracks are the way to go. I put one in my forester and it is the buisness. Can pretty much go around any corner and not have to bus-driver your steering wheel around. Or not have to cross up your arms excessively. Infact the only times you really have to even move your hands off the wheel is carparks/tight round abouts or gear shifts. Its like a go kart.

You want a rack with the PN ending in "FE440"

The "FE550" rack is from the later models and will be a bit newer and maybe eadier to come by. You can fit these if you also get the matching engine crossmember. That is what i did in my car.
