Default Upper Engine cleaner( no smoke?)

Guys...I used the upper Engine cleaner in my GC8 today and just like when I owned a 2001 WRX a few years ago ,I get no smoke discharge out theexhaust AT ALL?. Is this normal?, all the online videos I see of guys using it ,it pummels masses of smoke out the exhaust!?.

Maybe someone did it recently. What procedure are you using, where are you spraying it in?

In one one the vaccum ports infront of the Throttle , just like on most You Tube videos online ,spray 1 3rd of the can in there slowly ,let it sit for 5 mins ,start it up then spray the rest in there while its running . I asked the guy I bought it off ,if he ever used it ,but hadn't even heard of it!

I've noticed on mine it happen's when it doesn't get enough revs. I don't spray it in and leave to sit as a lot of the stuff just leaks out of the nipple. What I do is after the car's warmed up I just pull the hose off and start spraying getting my nephew to keep the revs between 2000 and 3000. Mind you I use 2.5 cans every time. When he's on the lower revs no smoke but as he increases the revs to 3000 she smokes away. Towards the last half can I don't get any smoke at all.

Best way to do it is to spray the whole can in while at idle(if your IAC works ok it should adjust and keep it running enough), don't rev it and switch it off when can is empty, you want the stuff to sit on the pistons and ports, hence no rev, let sit for 15 mins, then start and rev(may need to hold throttle open to get it to start)

If it doesn't smoke....there was no carbon/gunk that got loosened up.

If your running E85, water meth or race fuel, there will be no carbon.

I used to put the UEC cleaner in via the throttle body on my NA 2.5 Forester, I would get it warmed up, loosen off the clamp for the air intake hose enough to get the spray nozzle extension in there and spray 1/2 a can in and let it sit for 15 - 20 mins, then fire it up and put the remainder in whilst keeping the revs up. Then take it for a good run pushing the revs up in each of the lower gears.

I don't know if the turbo Subaru's have to be done differently.
