Possible rear transmission bearing
Guys, I get this whistling, whining sound when im driving, no matter in what gear/neutral and is speed dependant ie the pitch of the noise will change depending on the speed. It's not a huge noise...radio will cover it but it's farking annoying. I've been directed to rear transmission bearing...now anyone has had the same problem? how much it costs? is it necessary to do?
i'll add that i drive a stock my00 cheers |

bumping up an old thread.
Just got my car back on the road and recently it started making a whining noise upon decelleration ( sounded like a dog box). When i first got the car back i thought it was the ball bearing turbo. Today i drove in to work went to park my car, put it in first and it wouldn't go forward, it felt like the handbrake was engaged it would just rock back and forwards, tried reverse and same thing. I turned off the car put in neutral for a while, started her up and she was fine again just that the whining noise got louder and consistent...happens constantly now (not when stopped). Spoke to a few people and the said it must of selected 2 gears or something when it wouldnt move and then probly busted a diff bearing?? Any Ideas??? I am heading over to ASG when i can! thanks guys.
