Default Timing belt advice WRX 2013

Hi all,

Need some advice. I have a WRX 2013 with 102,000km on the clock. Subaru have advised I should change the timing belt at 125,000km. I am a bit hesitant in waiting that long as I have also read it’s a good idea to replace the timing belt at around the 100k mark. Any thoughts?

Also, should I be replacing the entire kit ie water pump etc?
What should I be expecting to pay? Ball park.

Any advice is appreciated.

I would get the belt inspected first.
When I did my timing belt @ 128k the belt looked pretty good and the water pump impeller was like brand new. I could have easily got away with just doing the belt and tensioners and waiting until the next belt change for the water pump. To change the whole lot including the thermostat cost me $1444.15. So I would recommend getting the belt inspected first.

Hi Soultrade,

Thanks for your response.

Sounds like solid advice. $1,400 is steep, damn. The joys of owning motor vehicles .

Stick to whatever the service manual says to change the belt and replace the pump its just insurance because if it does leak it will have to ripped apart again in the grand scheme things the pumps are not expensive but the labour is....
