Default Diffs...

Guys,

What I thought was a driveshaft has turned into a broken 4.1 R160 rear diff.

Are these a common failing point? Why ?

And whats one worth?

not generally common... subies tend to break first or second long before the diff gives out. Did the diff have any oil leaks or wierd noises coming from it?

A replacement is quite cheap though. You could get a replacement used R160 for around $300 in good condition.

Could upgrade to the STi R180 but then you would need new shafts and hubs too.

not in a 4.11 ratio though

teej, around $300 is about right, they are fairly common in import's, although locally you have to source a 4.11 from either an auto wrx or liberty
