Default For a car with an oil catch can, is doing an oil change the same as for a car without

hello.

i was thinkin about puttin a catch can into my WRX to stop "blow by" which is occuring in my car at the moment, however i wanted to know before i install one if when doing an oil change for a car with a catch can, is it the same as doing an oil change for a car without a catch can or are they some extra steps required as a normal oil change usually consists of undoing the oil nut, draining the oil, change the filter, replace the nut and pour in the oil.

thanks for your help.

The oil catch can does not have an effect on that at all. If it does, you have hooked up the oil catch can VERY VERY wrong!

thanks mate. so i assume that all the oil catch can does is "catch" any oil which goes where its not meant to go like inside the intercooler piping etc.. so it doesnt affect the way the oil flows around the car?

if the catch can has no effect on the procedure for a normal oil change, thats good news.

I was recommended to get an oil catch can by the guys at Tenagah Motorsports afta they inspected my car. Sound good but what does an oil catch can do for the car "besides catching oil" and what benfits do they have on the car

If your car suffers from alot of oil blow by, just make sure you empty the can at least at every oil change.

Fumes containing oil will get trapped in the catch can. Without a can the oil laden fumes return to the air intake for recycling. Oil eventually coats the inside of the intercooler reducing its efficiency. It also reduces the combustability of the intake charge. In other words the air/fuel mix will not burn as well, sucking valuable horsepower. Some catch cans vent to atmosphere, this is not very green/legal and it can also cause smells inside the cabin if they are sucked in by the cabin vents. Ask your mechanic to take the vent back into the system.

I have had catch can on my car for about 7 months... when I emptied it it had about an inch of oil and crap maybe a bit less. Thats with lots of hard driving and using the car every day. If you were to get more than a bit at the bottom of the can I would start to worry about it, it shouldnt end up being half full.

But then Simon you would have not have gone out on the track with sustained high lateral-g loading on your car.
Try Barbagello and then tell us how much oil you you get in the can on a STANDARD WRX engine.
