I think it's agains the law in Australia (and maybe Japan too) to leave your vehicle while the engine is running. This may be a reason for the conflicting information.

You're right. It is illegal to leave a car running while "unattended", however
they have to catch you in the act. There is nothing illegal about a TT, but
if you get out of the drivers seat while it is running then you can get a fine.

Always have a quick look around to be sure there are no police about before
leaving the car. Thats all I do.

Turbo timers work well at the track for that added cool down period. After all Subaru recommend a cool down period. I have a Blitz Dual Turbo Timer that also has a very accurate digital boost gauge with peak hold. It helps remind me to cool down the engine every time even if I have to stay with the car to be legal. Try Norbert at Action Alarms for some wiring advice or help.

And how do I know?...well I've owned 4 WRX/STi's since '94...all reasonably modded, never had a TT, never had any problems...
Exactly Steve, you sell your WRX and upgrade every couple of years, that's not a test of engine longevity in my books? If your looking for pure wank factor I would say spoiler kits are higher up the list. But each to their own I say.

i dont think a TT is very nessasary, at the track i just leave the car on and jump out the window so the brant doesnt turn it off for me...

and if i really did flog it 'all the way home' then i can use the brant as a form of TT

Morgan...please!! 70,000 km not a test? And my old MY99 still apparently going well.....must have at least 130+ on the clock by now. I absolutely stick by my comment that a turbo timer is not needed.
Though I guess when I finally succumb to Alzheimer's I may get one to remind me to cool the engine down....

btw..."you're" and "each to HIS/HER own"....
