Default fire!

driving gf to work this morning, a few crackles from the speakers, nothing....., a few more crackles and a weired burning smell, pull over and POP! a large white cloud of smoke from drivers side foot well, turned car off and sussed it all out, couldnt find anything wrong, got home and pulled out the head unit and everything seems to be fine, car runs fine, radio works fine... somethings shorted out...but what.

I would say probably a pack of rogue huntsman spiders under your dash didn't like your choice of music and set fire to your stereo...

Agree with Simon...I had the same problem with my RX7 quite a few years back, a wire got pinched and shorted against a metal part of the dash, and a similar thing happened.

You might also find some of the wiring is toast.

hopefully its only speaker wire. dimmer switches and other things sit behind the glovebox so it can't be these.
the switchgear for the dash is expensive too $300 for some of them.
