Default Silencing an exhaust??

After being yellowed i put the factory dump pipe back on but they claim the car is still far too loud (the other reason i didnt pass pits was due to a worn clutch peddal rubber....).

I tried to fit a xforce 4" silencer in the end of the muffler but its just that tad to big. My muffler tip seems to be 3.5" or so!

Without resorting to putting the stock system back in, is there anything easy and quick i can do? Chicken wire isnt an option either!!

Cut a piece of plate the same size as one of your exhaust flanges, and drill the appropriate holes in the same place as the exhaust flanges.

In the middle of the plate, drill a couple of small holes in it, and jam it in between the flanges (where the gasket would normally go). Use some gasket goo so it doesnt leak.

Make sure you drop your boost too, run wastegate pressure if possible because the exhaust is going to be as restrictive as fuck...but it'll be quiet

This helped me get my RX7 over the pits a couple of times!!

Hmm thats a good idea Joe! Apparently they wont even drive the car this time. Simply look if i've changed my pedal rubber and listen to the exhaust, hence why i dont want to diddle around too much!

I borrowed Joshs X force silencer so if i can dodge spec that up, it may work but i dont know if it can be done without a) looking super dodgy or b) destroying it!

Had a friend get his standard rear muffler and pipe section modified to fit the 3" TBE midsection. Just bolt it on when you need to go over the pits and it makes it look standard, and it runs almost as quiet as stock.

FOund out the reason why the silencer didnt fit.. All the Xforce ones (which are the most common ones) are rated at 4" but are actually 4.5"'s, hence not fitting on any other 4" systems!

Not sure what type of tip your system has but fitting a resonated tip makes a big difference. Polarbear used to have a 5" straight thru type tip on a full Hitech/MY99 that was way too loud, well at least the cops said so I have the same system except with a 4 "resonated tip that is not overly loud. 84db @4000rpm = legal

BTW the china spec systems that do not have a bend at the rear diff are an inferior design...because: The lack of a restriction at the rear shifts the torque band higher reducing overall performance. You may get a slightly higher power level but at the expense of torque, and this overall is slower! Some testing by MSR has shown that a 2.5" rear section with a 3" TBE is close to optimum. So for some fitting a smaller rear tip may be considered a performance modification that stops you attracting the police...win-win.

To a point, yes....smaller pipe diameter = higher gas velocity = more power/torque.

Once your making some power, the main priority is getting the exhaust gas out as QUICKLY as possible, because at this point, any back pressure causes a restriction, and limits power. In this situation, a smaller pipe diameter is going to be detrimental to power, because of the sheer volume of gas. The pipework will need to be large to be able to move that volume of gas out of the system as quickly as possible.
