For the MoTeC owners, Variable Rev-Limit
I was configuring my idle with the motec (3.3 software) and decided that i'd use one of the tables to limit the RPM based on engine coolant and oil tempurature.
great for saftey and very easy to setup. step1. open ecu manager, open the rev-limit section. step 2. set your overall rev-limit step 3. open the rpm-limit table step 4. right click the table, select axis setup step 5. select the X axis step 6. enable the x axis, and select engine temp (coolant temp) step 7. configure the key engine tempurature sites. step 8. i chose the following sites: step 9. ok all that and go back to the motec table, the table will auto-generate for you and be zero'd out. step 10. set the rev-limits for those engine tempuratures remembering that motec will interpolate between the values in the cells 0-50 degrees is limited idle warm-up, 50-70 is warm-up no boost, 78-80 is almost at running temp, 80-105 is running temp, 105-120 is over-temp and limited to promote cool-down. (of course pick values which suit your setup) you can leave the table there if you only have engine temp input'd into the ecu. step 11. if you have oil-temp input into the ecu, setup the Y axis on the axis setup. configure the cells which are appropriate for your setup. step12. the table will auto generate again, and probably look like this: step 13. build a fortress, and isolate the fields which are your optimal operating range, then feather off the values around the table which match the conditions. you should end up with a table similar to this: after that, your all done, it all helps to save your engine, especially if you leave it to a mate or someone whos not familiar with a cool-down/warm-up of cold/hot engines.

I was wondering if motec could do that. As i know autronic have that function built in, when i had my old car..

How good is the standard ECU in terms of mapping resolution vs motec? does motec have more points?

motec resolution is
40x24 for efficency (fuel) 55x35 for load (ignition) all other 3D tables in the ecu can extend to an X axis of 21 points, Y axis of 11 4D mapping reduces the overall resolution of the primary tables, but gives you a Z axis instead. 16 x 11 x 11
