Default Thailand.

so me and the gf are heading to thailand for a month in may/june.
we're doing a 17 day trek around the country staying dodgy places and ridin in dodgy transport. the trek is organised by 'GECKO ADVENTURE HOLIDAYS'. it should be mint.
stayin the the remaining 13 days in phuket and goin to one of these "full moon parties".
was wondering if anyones had experience either with "gecko" or been to a full moon party.
it's our first time to thailand and any advice/opinions/experience would be appreciated.

cheers.
tim.

Went to Thailand last year with the g/f, we went all over the place but spent most of the time in Bangkok & Phuket. If you get the chance go to the tiger temple and pat the tigers, that memory will stay with me for the rest of my life!!
Had an absolute blast over there, could have an absolute ball over there with the boys though!!

been there 3 or 4 times now, and every time has been a blast. Definately pat the tigers, go for a ride on an elephant, and for the night life take a trip into patong beach and live it up.
Stay away from the 'girly boys' (transvestites), and don't eat from road side vendors. Also if you want to do any water activities like jetskis, take note they don't have insurance, so if you crash you are paying for it.

If you have the cash do a dive & the time do a PADI course in Phuket. Heaps of qualified dive shops & it's some of the most amazing diving anywhere in the world. The highlight of my trip for sure.

You also have to check out the main weekend markets just out of BK.. 35 aches. Floating ones you can give a miss.. and as mentioned wouldn't be a trip without patting a tiger & riding an elephant.

Sounds like you'll be getting the full experience with the trek.. respect for getting out & seeing the country rather then just shop.

if your goin to phuket then make sure you go go-karting. karts go up to 130km/h and that means solid drifting through the corners.. and not just slam the brakes and wheel kicks out a bit.. but i mean stomp foot and tail lights up sideways.. but make sure you go the 'the fast karts' track its located over the road from the slow karts.. jsut tell the driver and they all know
