Moment of truth arrives
By Mark Webber Australian Formula One driver March 16, 2007 THE expectations are huge at Albert Park today. It is the start of another season in Formula One. There have been a lot of changes right down the pitlane and all the guys are ready to go. Anyone can talk a good game, say they are going to do this and that, but now they have to do it. Apart from Ferrari, I cannot think of a team that's not under pressure this year. We realise that at Red Bull Racing. Honda is under the pump. Toyota is under the pump. Williams is there with a point to prove, and looks strong. Everyone was a bit anxious yesterday because they don't know what they have or what they are going to get. Once we all hit the track we have the evidence. The times don't lie. It's going to be very tight and competitive. With a restriction to 19,000 revs on the engines there won't be a huge difference in horsepower, and everyone is now on the same Bridgestone tyres. So aero is huge. That's where the lap time is. You've got to get that sorted. Winter was long. It always is in Britain, but we were also testing, testing, testing. It was nice to go to Bahrain, which was a change from testing in Spain, and I got a bit of heat. Right now we're a little bit behind the eight ball at Red Bull. We're not as slick and sharp with the things that come with more time. If we had run the car with the Renault engine before Christmas it would have helped. It's obviously reliable, but it's the installation that you need to test. And that creeps up on you over time. We should be a little bit quicker than we are, but we're not and need to address that. They are doing that every day. We've come here and still have a bit of work to do. The car feels pretty good, but it's not fast enough. For example, with the gearbox we don't have the seamless change that some teams are using. There are things that other teams have and have exhausted on the development side, and we have that to come. So we have gains they might not get, but they will improve. So we still have a lot to do. We need to go racing and see what we can do. We don't really know how the team will go until we're under pressure. We've got to go racing. You learn the most when you go racing and there are always casualties in this game. Right now, today, we've got three hours of testing. The teams will be screaming for information and it won't be like last year, when I only did six laps to look after my engine. We're going to be doing 40 to 45 laps. I'm going to stay in my race car and David Coulthard will try T-car and his race car. It won't be a problem doing that distance because the drivers are old but fit. David is fitter than a lot of the young guys. We're looking for a faultless day. We're not interested in positions at all. David and I are on totally different programs today. I'm after balance, I'm after consistency, I'm after laps. Then we get serious tomorrow.

Webber will be a let down. Dont get your hopes up.
BMW for darkhorse, Fezza and Macca to fight up front, with a few showings of pace from Renault and Honda. Toyota to be the biggest disappointment - biggest budget in F1 ever, and most likely going to be battling Torro Rosso Skyper and Super Aguri!

Thats what he has been saying to the engineers!
"get this thing to generate heat in the tyres so it will turn in" Apparently a solution is close at hand.. until then its going to struggle for pace.
