Default Wireless network

I've got Bigpond cable at home and need to set up a wireless network. We tried an old wireless router before, but that didn't work. Bigpond want $250 for their wireless modem, but surely theres a cheaper way to do so? I'm no computer expert, but surely it cant really be rocket science. Any suggestions?

Apple Airport Express will transmit a wireless singal within your home through the electrical wires. Also transmits 400m radius about the unit. One of the best ways to go wireless IMO. $199 from the Apple store, but fuck its worth it. It can also do wireless music thru itunes and wireless printing.

When on my laptop I would download at almost the same speed as my desktop which was hard wired.

All u need is a 4port router (if you plan on having more than 1 PC connected) or just a standard modem with the apple express plugged in via ethernet cable.

And I assume that works fine with PC - I have Macbook laptop and Windows PC.... Wireless printing would be handy.

So the Airport express just sits between the Bigpond modem and the wall plug via ethernet yeah? Sounds pretty simple.

WNET D-LINK 54MB AIR PLUS ACCESS POINT# $85.00

Just hook it into a port on the router (assuming you have spare ports) and hey presto.. if you can get a "surecom" one that would be better.. cheaper and has some fun features like "repeating".

Sit it on the window and repeat the signal from an open access point back into your house.. yay for extended free wireless. hahaha
