See, it all comes down to how its worded...its done so to confuse, and make a magical "extra dollar" appear. Adding the $2 to a figure which already accounts for that $2, leaves the confusing $1 behind.

The 3 men paid $30 originally...they all get a dollar back each from the $3, so that leaves $27. The Bell Boy keeps $2 out of it. That leaves $25, which is how much the room was!

The owner keeps $25,
The bellboy gets $2,
The men get $3 back.

That adds up to $30, right?
