amnet/westnet/iinet looking for good ones...
If you are getting a modem included, then get a router/modem combo
which will connect to your PC by ethernet. The USB devices are
cheaper, but offer far less protection from the web.

In other words, a plain modem will present ALL inbound connections
to your PC, forcing your firewall to deal with attacks. A router/modem combo
will drop ALL inbound connections (unless you configure it otherwise)
so protecting your PC better.

Router/Modem combos also allow the connection to be shared far
more easily without the need to a PC to act as a "gateway".

Make sure you do your research including things like phone and/or
VOIP bundling.

Dont want VOIP, not because I dont like it, but because my parents are older and european, lack english skills. means they are afraid of technology.

there is a ADSL 2+ Checker on the right hand side.
Amnet seem to have the best ADSL2+ plans.
Just be careful with these checkers, as even though it might say you can get it and your connected to the midland exhcange in my case, after applying and re-applying for adsl2 it turns out im on a 'sub-exchange' thus has telstras equipment only, and stuck with ADSL1.

So yeah, before applying, shoot the ISP's an email, and actually get them to do a proper line check, not just enter your phone number into their checker as they did, which i already did anyway, and it was wrong.

Well just thought I'd add my 2cents... I came across a website that can
test your "Downloads & Uploads"

Try... www.speedtest.net

and tell us all who your With, Plan and what score you got !!!

I'm with (sorry to say) Telstra and on ADSL2+ and my plan is $89/mth

My test results where... Download @ 8205kb/s (I've had upto 9300) and upload @ 358 (again upto 600kb/s)
