A MAN claiming to be armed with an AK-47 assault rifle and bombs or poison has threatened to make the Virginia Tech school massacre "look mild" in comparison, Californian police have said.

Schools in the two northern Californian cities are in lockdown as a search continues for Jeffrey Carney, said Paul Parker, of the Sutter County Sheriff Department.

He has told CNN Mr Carney, 28, called his family members and a local pastor "and made statements to them that he was going to make Virginia Tech look mild in comparison, that he was armed with an AK-47 and improvised explosive devices and that he wanted to commit suicide" by being killed by a police officer.

yep heard it on the radio heading to work this morning. To be honest I am just suprised that more of this doesn't happen. It's so easy to get high powered hand guns and rifles in the US.

my work wants me to fly to atlanta eventually for some training.. im trying to wiggle my way out of it. i will never go to america.. regardless of all this stuff from the last few days.

My best mate from yr 7 went to america for a holiday and had someone shot dead infront of her.. on the door step of the hotel she was staying at.. the gun man went to shoot her and her dad but didnt have any bullets left.. she is lucky to be alive

bad stuff like that makes me glad i live here!
