While at the same time reducing the number of vehicles available to the police, as I understand it WA now has no (or very few) motorbikes left!

Personally I would always rather be pulled over by an actual person that can hopefully show some common sense judgement on the situation, I suppose that doesnt sit well with the speed kills mantra though.

System is working fine as far as revenue raising goes, as for working in a bid to reduce road tolls no its not working there.

When hand held laser is trained on a vehicle, the target is usually the number plate as this is the most reflective surface... your detector needs to be in close proximity to work.

All this to say that it's not just the fact they are on all the time, but equally the fact that the beam width must be much wider than for hand held, making a detector worthwhile.
Not quite.
The lidar guns have a beam diameter of 30cm per 100m (away from the gun).
So at 200m, the beam diameter is roughly 60cm

Boris, I don't know why you're stressing
The V1 is the king of laser, and stands the best chance of detecting the (permanently on) scattering of the laser beam.

There are 2 laser jammers that render your car invisible to the Poliscan 1 and Poliscan 2 cameras, but of course they are illegal. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2pbE-JCia74

Just use your V1 and be mindful of reacting to laser alerts pretty quick (as you would anyway).

Mask the reflective portions with Veil, and you'd be doing even better no doubt.

The most interesting thing about this upgrade is the move from wetfilm cameras in the MN's to digital cameras in these Poliscans.

Digital cameras have the flawed MD5 algorithm that applies which means no photos from these devices can be used in court against you...see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MD5

and how to use it in court here: http://www.delonixradar.com.au/speed...eating/AUS.htm

What about the introduction of the new fixed cameras like the one on Riverside Drive are they bringing those in and will or do the detectors pick these up.

Angry Radar Detectors and new cameras

Well I passed the new ones on Leach Hwy and nothing from an older Bel855. No K, Ka or Laser. Tried both way to get some sort of reading but nada.

I wonder if it's on ;( BUT not going to question it - just drive appropriately.

Does anyone know whether the three new cameras on the corners of North Lake Road, Stock Road and Carrington Road corners of Leach Hwy are:

1. combo speed / red light
2. point to point average speed
3. All the above

I think the answer is 2 - but...I think it's for MRWA to calculate travelling times to Perth, etc, not speeding, etc (yet) - I read an article somewhere about it.

Dave,

Seems to me that's why we have GPS/ECU scanners. I've set my gps with both warnings. Keeps track of my average speed and reminds me of the possible speed/red light.

Been trialing "Trapster" on the iPhone as well.

What's bugging me is the radar detector being silent.

Blues - thought I heard that as well BUT even if that is correct now it'll change soon enough.

GTB

I'm stressing because LIDAR doesn't scatter or spread anywhere near as much as radar. I'm sure that you're right and that V1 users have nothing to worry about... I'll be more certain of that when you post up some videos of the V1 vs Poliscan once they're on the road

Any idea when the transition is going to take place?
