DynDns is the way to go
For remote desktop connection use www.logmein.com Your IP should be listed in the user console on the ISP's website |

Ok firstly goto dyndns.com and create an account.
http://www.dyndns.com/services/dns/dyndns/howto.html will show you what you need to know to create an account. Then on your router configuration there will be an option for dynamic dns. Usually you will enter your username and password for your dynamic dns account and then that will be done. You now should be able to ping your host you setup with dyndns. So when you create your account you will add a host i.e. mycomputer.dyndns.whatever. When you have it setup on your router open up a command prompt and try ping the hostname you setup. If this works step 1 is complete. Next you will need to setup port forwarding on the router to forward a specific port to your dvr. This should be port 80 by default. So to do this in the config of your router find port forwarding. It should have a section to enter the port you would like to forward which would be port 80 or whatever the dvr is running on and the ip address to forward to. This will be the internal ip address of your dvr. i.e. something like 192.168.1.100 or whatever it is in your case. From this to test it you will need to goto a computer that is external to your environment i.e. your friends computer or ask one of us to test it out for you. If all goes well you should be up and running. Any other questions just ask and I can try find a better tutorial for you more specific to your router. Hope this helps you out. Cheers Stefan |

pretty much all dyndns does is resolve your ip address as a name...
