only so much as when you open the Sat West Aust. Not interested in FWD so that rules some of them out. I will not buy a french made car full stop - remember I am still an american too :D ! Volvo doesn't even come into consideration to be honest for another 20 years at least  and holden astra well its a holden astra. thanks for the suggestions though.

Done Deal. The wife selected a MY08 Golf GT and its ordered for del in Oct 07, she got grey metallic w/ auto/dsg paddle shift, bi-xenon lights, and leather seats. She is happy and so am I. We drove it again and its goes hard for a 1.4 ltr car.

Aren't the GT's FWD?

e-rex-shon 14-07-2007 11:51 PM

Dave I just looked at the spec list for the GT off the vw website and as explict says, it clearly says the GT is FWD, yet in your previous post you said you were not interested in FWD cars. Is there a RWD or 4WD available?

And the line about the French, god you Americans still aren't carrying on about that freedom fries bullshit are you?ottytrai

(Cause it looks like the French were right!)

They put out more power than VW quote.

150kw at the flywheel or 113-121kw at the wheels on a DDynamics.

They should put out 95ish kw at the wheels standard.

So your getting Golf GTI amounts of power (147kw flywheel) for 5k less. Nice. :) :)

That said, what does a GTi dyno at....?

agentorange 09-08-2007 01:27 PM

My mate picked up his(actually a car for his wife) Golf GT last night and came round mine with it. Needless to say we took if for a quick lap round the block...

They actually don't go too badly for a 1.4. They have a decent amount of torque and handle corners pretty well. We threw it into a couple of corners with and without the ESP running...not too bad at all...I'm sure the sticky Continental's have something to do with this. The car only became a little un-stuck pushing it through a corner. However, being a front wheel drive and giving it all through a corner would definetly end in disaster.

Half decent car IMHO...
