I sold my CRF250 2004 model about 6 mnths ago for $4000.00
I think you should be able to pick up an ex race bike ( 4 stroke 250 ) for about $6000.00, when they are 1 year old. I know a few of the guys that trade them in on the new bike and thats all they get.

the place near the airport...forgot what it was called. Ring them up and ask when the next one is on. They sell 250s as well as 400s, no weapons though the funniest thing is if we park them somewhere (like little creatures when we feel like a beer) japanese turists end up taking photos with them hahaha

You only pay stamp duty when it is licensed. i.e. mx bike not licensed so no stamp duty.

There is very little to go wrong with a 2 stroke. They go through a fair few spark plugs but that is no big deal. No valves / no OHC etc

The owners manual for my CRF said that you should replace the piston every 15 hours and the gudgeon pin every 30. This was a little cautious but it gives you an idea. If you dont keep on top of checking the valves etc when they fail they are mega dollars to fix.

YZ250 = 250cc 2 stroke mx bike

YZF250 and YZ250F are the same thing. It is a 250cc 4 stroke.

In terms of the racing classes they have

lites: 250cc 4 strokes and 125cc 2 strokes

open: 250cc 2 strokes and 450cc 4 strokes.

A racing 250cc 4 stroke puts out about 28 hp and a 450 cc puts out about 50hp. 2 strokes are a little less but deliver their power very differently. This is why all the freestyle guys still like 2 strokes whereas all the mx boys have gone to 4 strokes.
