from memory, its an 80km zone just before the narrows then it hits 100kmh as it goes over past Vincent street.. and the cops are there with the hand held to catch those getting a head start.
not at that time they aren't!!

Yeah grabbing all the people coming from Leederville and others trying to get out of town via different exits. Is a great spot for speeders as it is only an 80 zone from the narrows till after you pass the Leedy Train Station and same for coming out of the tunnel. You can afford to be very choosey sitting there when looking for a decent speeder. Fish in a barrel springs to mind.

lovin the inside scoop from officer Dan!

I saw the booze bus their last night on my way home from a wedding reception. I usually see it there, or at the end of the Mitchell Freeway at the Hodges Drive Exit, leaving you no where to go.

I also saw that new drug bus in operation on the GE Highway on Friday night, catching stoners all over the place.

From the boys in blue website FAQ......

6. What drugs are proposed to be detected by roadside saliva tests?Random roadside saliva testing will focus on the detection of THC (the active component in cannabis) and methylamphetamines (including MDMA), which are, after alcohol, the drugs of greatest concern in relation to road safety.
7. How long after consuming cannabis, methylamphetamine or MDMA can these drugs be detected in saliva?THC (the active ingredient in cannabis) can be detected in saliva for up to four hours after use, but is dependent on the amount and potency of the cannabis, on the individual’s metabolism and the method of use. THC residue from using cannabis in previous days or weeks will not be detected.
Methylamphetamines, including MDMA, can be detected for approximately 24 hour after use. Extremely large doses, a person’s metabolism and whether other drugs were taken at the same time may affect the duration of the effects of these drugs.
8. Will THC be detected if inhaled from passive smoking be detected?Having THC (the active ingredient in cannabis) in saliva as a result of passive smoking would be very unlikely and if it was evident it would be at extremely low levels that would not be detected by the screening devices.

saw this on te cop's website too..... might be of interest as an arguement winner/starter for some.

The Problem / Issue
Contrary to popular myth, young drivers are no more at risk of death or serious injury by driving powerful cars than other drivers. Vehicle performance is unrelated to a novice driver's risk of being killed or seriously injured in the first two years of holding a licence.

What We're Doing
Young novice drivers are no more at risk of death or serious injury driving powerful cars than other drivers, a university of Western Australia study has found.

The research - the first in WA - shows that vehicle performance is unrelated to a novice driver's risk of crashing in the first two years of holding a licence.

This challenges the popular myth that vehicle performance is a major cause of crashes for young, novice drivers. And the study calls for restrictions on high-powered vehicles for young drivers to be dismissed.

The study recommends speed be targeted and regulated through changes to the licensing and penalty system, not through access to certain types of vehicles.

It also recommends educational materials be developed disseminated to both novice drivers and their parents highlighting safety features and the need for novice drivers to drive vehicles which provide them with greater safety and protection if they are involved in a crash.

The study looked at 662 serious injury crashes in 1999 and 2000 in WA and the power to weight ratio of the crashed vehicles was calculated. This was compared with the power to weight ratio of vehicles driven by novice drivers who did not crash during the same period.

Only three per cent of crashed vehicles had a power to weight ratio above 100 kilowatts a tonne of vehicle weight and only two vehicles had power to weight ratio above 125 kilowatts.

The study highlighted speeding as the cause of most crashes involving young drivers.

The main issue is how vehicles are driven and, with the majority of crashes happening in 70km/h speed zones or less, even the lowest powered vehicles driven at excessive speed are a problem.
