Teak restoration
Anyone here know anything about restoring badly weathered teak. Got some handrails on the boat that have been neglected. Seems to be cracking and nolonger a smooth surface has grooves. Option A is to sand but this will result in making the handrails thinner and do not want to do this. So anyone got any experience in restoration :)

sorry dude sanding and oiling is about it. If you sand them and then go to International Paints in Henderson they can seel you some US Paint which is the best of the best for marine applications but hard to apply and can take up to 6 days to dry properly. Or replace it all

Light sand, teak woodstain, varnish.

Jesus, you gotta spend less time in Bunnings

use a product made by feast watson called sanding sealer.
i would then recomend a marine varnish on top. |
yeh u could use sanding sealer as it provides a base to put the top coat on..
However if ur rails are badly damaged i.e weathered- cracked then i would recomend sanding them to smooth it out... Then go with a marine based clear sealer... dont use a stain as it dosent have any U.V properties.. |
the sanding sealer. what will ti make the cracks look like do you get it in teak color? or is it clear?
Cheers for this guys btw. |
We used to use a product from ronstan called teak paste. Was easy to apply and no mess from oils. But it is nolonger sold. Do they still have teak pastes and if so got any names :)

Cheers for this guys btw.[/QUOTE] the only way to get rid of the cracks is to buy some teak sand it and use the fillings mixed with a clear epoxy resin to fill the cracks.. give a light sand and back to new... |
Cheers for the tip. What about some teak putty?
