Default Teak restoration

Anyone here know anything about restoring badly weathered teak. Got some handrails on the boat that have been neglected. Seems to be cracking and nolonger a smooth surface has grooves. Option A is to sand but this will result in making the handrails thinner and do not want to do this. So anyone got any experience in restoration

Cheers

sorry dude sanding and oiling is about it. If you sand them and then go to International Paints in Henderson they can seel you some US Paint which is the best of the best for marine applications but hard to apply and can take up to 6 days to dry properly. Or replace it all

yeh u could use sanding sealer as it provides a base to put the top coat on..

However if ur rails are badly damaged i.e weathered- cracked then i would recomend sanding them to smooth it out...

Then go with a marine based clear sealer...

dont use a stain as it dosent have any U.V properties..

the only way to get rid of the cracks is to buy some teak sand it and use the fillings mixed with a clear epoxy resin to fill the cracks.. give a light sand and back to new...
