Ive tried to think of how they have done this but its got me stumped

It's pretty simple actually.

I think I put the maths up for it the other year.

Edit:

Choose any two digit number, add the digits together and subtract from the original number.

i.e. Select 23. 2+3=5. 23-5=18.

So let 'a' equal the tens digit (i.e. 2 in the case above) and 'b' equal the units digit (i.e. 3 in the case above).

Z = (10a + b) - (a + b)

Z = 9a

Funnilly enough, you will notice all of the 9 times tables answers have the same symbol

if u check it again, the symbols change all the time, all the possible combinations have the same symbol ie

88 : 8+8 =16 so 88 - 16 = 72
73 : 7+3 = 10 so 73- 10 = 63

and so on...these final results will always have the same symbol which changes after each "try again"

As Kato said Every answer is divisible by 9

No matter what 2 digit number you pick the answer will be disibile by 9.

Therefore the number 9 has all the same symbol and thats whats gonna appear

eg 9, 18, 27, 36, 45, 54, 63, 72, 81, 90...... will have the same symbol next to it
