The fundamental frequency of the swing has the same frequency as the surrounding wind conditions, thus having the amplitudes added up. therefore as the "relatively small" wind blows the energy of the wind is being slowly converted to excess unstable kinetic energy that exponentially grows in the swing. making the swing increase in amplitude each cycle.

hmmmm interesting...

if there was wind it would be hard to phathom that only one swing was able to move whilst the others remained relatively still...

However it would need to be done under different conditins..

i.e put a big box around it to see if they swung.. you think being a school they would have thought of simple experiments.

Reminds me of a story of a swing in our local park. My sister and her friend were swinging on the swings in the park, my sister felt something tell her to leave something bad is going to happen. She convinced her friend and they left the park. They returned a short while later and the swings were wrapped around the top pole of the swings right to the top (a good 4 - 5 meters up). They both freaked out and ran home. There have been quite a few od's in this park, usually aerosol sniffers back in the day.
