Yes went through it with radar detector...no alerts.
I stopped and took several photos afterwards.

1 is the sensor and 1 is the camera.... It probably same as a speed camera but only functions as a 'Redlight' setup.

Yes. I've seen them calibrating the multanova using handheld devices many times.

A while back it took a photo of me @ 25km/h in a school zone - The escort picked up K Band, then switched to Ka so i made sure i was going well under the limit. I stopped to check why and the operator said it was a test photo and that he was 'calibrating the multanova with this thing' (pointing @ handheld).

Wierd that there were cops there too... maybe they were helping him calibrate.... or just showing off their vast arsenal of weapons against speeding haha

LOL

The Multanova operators use the old Falcon K-band hand-held radar guns made by Kustom to verify (not calibrate) the readings coming from the Multanova are the same (as the hand-held radar)

The readings from the Multanovas also come through the software on the laptop sitting in the operator's car.

Is this a speed camera? Or does it just activate when a train is coming to catch people trying to beat the train?

Look expensive, and when up close, you can see a decent lens inside it.
Back on this topic, I saw something about that in the news on TV a month or so ago.
It was about how it cost taxpayers somewhere in the vicinity of $1million, took a year to get up and running and doesn't actually take a picture which can legally be used to prosicute people who run the tracks when lights are on/gates are down. That aprt I remember very clearly.
There was some big anger about how it was so expensive yet it wasn't actually being used for anything. yet. If someone runs the lights they aren't fined and in fact nothing is even done about it. I'm not sure why.

How crap hey? How's that for a good use of a million bucks?
