It was the only way to ensure the ban on traction control was enforced.

Also they are trying to curb some costs.

What is the bet some teams will run a new steering wheel that contains some 'interesting electronics' with traction/braking control as a flash memory.

Message from the ECU at a pit stop in mid-race
"Your ECU requires activation and is now been restricted to braking only. You can either activate over the Internet or ring our toll free number to activate your ECU. After activation please restart the ECU by [pressing start + brake + full steering lock to the right] at the same time."

Looks like all the teams will be installing bitcomet and downloading their new ECU's. Yay for online piracey!

On a serious note, sounds like bill gates will be getting a nice big cut into yet another area of production. Rich gettin richer.

bit of an oxymoron, you'll end up spending more in tyre wear and damage to the trannys though every just smashing through the gears and burying the gas, traction control in this class would be a money saver IMHO

Denver, more to do with the costs of the ECU itself - because it contains less functions it needs less sensors, mapping, wiring etc.

I think it was reported that these cost 10% of the price of the ECU Ferrari were running!

The tyres these days last a race distance - they need to use one set of soft and one set of hard, and then they get binned, so there is no extra tyre costs.

Gearboxes now have a 4 race rule - they have to last 4 races or you get penalised. Increases life, reduces costs.

I think its great - the best series in the world, with the best drivers, who were just playing with a tc setting to go faster. Let them use their real skill.

Amen to that!

Can't wait to watch the top manipulative drivers (i.e. Kimi and Hamilton) strut their stuff. Seeing Hamilton getting it sideways in Monaco at the Swimming Pool WITH TC...what's it gonna be like w/o TC

Reactive blokes like Massa (though struggling initially) should be good value too.
