Default Computer Help - Faulty Mainboard??

Hey guys, after the power blackout today when our power came back on, our safety switch tripped and i went out and flicked it back on, then went to use my pc - turned it on, it had just booted into XP and the safety switch went off again. Found it was water getting into an engel fridge we had outside..... ANYWAY -

After unplugging the engel and flicking the safety switch on again, now it wont fully boot into windows, it just keeps resetting and rebooting... have experienced this before and it was a fucked motherboard, would i be correct in assuming its that again?

Cheers in advance,
Josh

Pull off the case, reset the mainboard to defaults using the jumbers.

Reboot, see what happens.

Read the model number off the board, do a search on the manufacturers website if you don't have the manual.

Most mainboards can be reset via jumpers - If not .. Pull out the CMOS/BIOS battery, give it a min, chuck it back in and fire it up.

I would try and hit F8 when it starts up. Try last known good configuraton.

Prob a corrupt file. Motherboard jumpers won't do much

Ahh - Didn't even see that post!

Sorry dude, yeah if you are getting to the Windows Logo, yeah - The jumpers won't do anything.

F8 Last Known Good Config can *sometimes* work, but won't save all.

Sounds like the power cut corrupted a system file on your computer. Most times this has happened to me i've rebuilt.

If you do have to rebuilt, I'll give your the details for Acronis True-Image, so when/if you do rebuild, the software takes a 'photo' of your clean install of Windows, saves to to another partition and you have the option to completely go back to your clean image if things break.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing.
