like the reply up there^^^^^^^^said and i recomend go to somewhere in your area doesnt matter where and see what they have.
shouldnt have to pay more than 300 for a guitar i reckon.
What about my old ladies Yamaha acoustic from the 70s? Would that be ok. It needs new strings probably, but looks ok.

yeh try that...if te strings are as old as the guitar than yeh should go change them. just go to a music store and they should have them. shouldnt spend more than $20 for a new set of strings and make sure u have some way of tunning the instrument so if u need a string tuner u should def get one. should be $30-$50.

as for lessons...if your keen on paying than i say thats the best way to go...but if u wana try yourself than do what my mate did and purchase a video. usually if u buy a beginers book it coms with cd for listen and play back.

that will be fine as long as all 6 strings are intact. You don't need a WRX to learn how to drive, a shitter 120Y will do.

learn the basic chords yourself, should be able to download the finger positions off the net. you'll be able to play songs almost immediately once you learn basic chords and get the rhythm right. e.g first part of U2's All I Want Is You is only 2 chords! easy song to learn

once you get the hang of it, then get lessons. IMHO you'll be wasting money on lessons right at the beginning.

you'll also need to tune the guitar first, using pitch pipes (by ear) or more expensive electronic tuners. If you have a piano or something at home you can tune it against that.

I can suggest jumping on any guitar forums! haha PWRX is about cars, and while there's gonna be some genuine guitar musos here, there'd be 1,000X more on a guitar forum. Finding them is up to you though.

best thing is to first learn clasical guitar as mensioned above because you will learn where all the notes are on the fret board...as well as how to read music if you cant already...personally i dont think you can go wrong with Zenith music that have an awesome range and some of the best customer service i have ever had...EVER! ....also as said before no need to goin paying huge amounts for a good guitar something around te 200 mark will get you something good to learn on and plus the average person wont be able to tell the difference between the sound of a $200 guitar and a $2000 guitar... happy playin
