Exclamation FuelWatch, luxury car tax, Medicare threshold delayed in Senate

Some good news
Quote:
THE Coalition has used its Senate majority to delay passage of Government Budget measures.

As threatened, the Coalition today successfully sent 11 Budget-related bills to be scrutinised by committees, scuttling the Government's plans to have the draft laws passed by the end of next week.

Measures to be examined by committees include the controversial national FuelWatch scheme, a hike in the luxury car tax and a lift in the Medicare levy surcharge threshold.
Quote:
The committee will also examine government moves to lift the tax on luxury cars and assess the potential impact of the proposed increase on rural and regional communities, small business families and tourism operators.
God help us when the Liberals loose their majority in the senate shortly.

I'm scared at what crazy things will get put through when the Libs lose the majority.

I have never understood why if you are successful, you need to pay LCT when buying a decent vehicle. You pay enough in GST/stamp anyway.

The other one that i hate is Pay roll tax. Put simply a tax on company that employ to many staff or spend to much on wages. We only employ 30 odd staff and every year get slugged. Hate to be a big company.

It will be interesting to see how the greens use their balance of power. I guess one good thing is krudd doesn't seem to be as extremist as many of the previous labour generals. I believe that had a lot to do with why he was elected, the change that everyone supposedly wanted wasn't that big.

I sign off on check to state govt every fortnight for payroll tax. Couple of hundred employees working at various mine sites means they get a fat check just for allowing me to pay my employees, what a joke!

Sometimes I wonder why they are trying to make us all impoverished.

Fuel price goes up, food price goes up, Interest rates STILL go up (WTF!?) so now that no one has any money what do we do? "Hey lets slap those who can somehow still afford a nice car an even bigger tax!"

How does this make sence? I tell you what while people think this is bad has anyone actually looking into the IR laws John howard bought in? If they are a company with less than 100 employees they can fire you for no reason at all, nothing and you cant do a thing about it.

Yeh thats really gonna help us johnny!

Yup about time people started to think of the employer for once.

Whilst it is nice having 101 reasons you can't get rid of an employee, another hundred reasons why employees can leave a company at a whim, when the roles reverse everyone gets up in arms.

And by the way, it wasn't as simple as you could just sack people for the sake of it.
