If the government is to help working familes have a better lifestyle, why not have an enquiry into why a car like the VE is able to be sold significantly cheaper overseas than it is in Australia. Obviously there is a big scam going on somewhere.

If prices were similar to the US market, then yeah I can understand a luxury car tax. Currenly LCT should really only be on cars over $200k.

$45k Merc CL55 over in the states
$250k over here WTF !!!
Based on local paper in the Newyork times,......theprotest can confirm this !!

LCT ftl !! We had a $76k new Mercedes in 2003 and recently got an evaluation $21k 5 years at $5k a year for trade in WTF ! thats the price of a FUCKING VY Commonwhore WTF !!! Redbook and Market Value plus TAX For the FUCKIN LOSE !!

Dont even get me started on a Commonwhore being luxury, nor a new VW for that fact either and even now a Merc aint nothing that special there too small and or to expensive for most (p.s I hate my parents car with a passion )!!

Cheers Phil

ROFL tell me about, pisses me off soooooo much !!

Ever since i had my 350z ($73k rrp on the road here) and saw they were only mid 30's over there its been pissing me off.

I could understand us paying a 20% premium over here because of the limited market size and the usual economic reasons, but in most cases it is double if not triple the cost.

nuttin we can do about it either !!

cha*ching !! Import tax, LCT etc all are govt revenue raising devices disguised as protection initiatives, not dissimilar to the alcopop tax and multanova which are also pathetic excuses for revenue raising.

Speed kills, pfft so does drink driving but until they invent a drink driving camera the road safety sheep will never bleat "Drink driving kills"

Haha, same as the "Police are now targeting: Fatigue" signs.

How? with a camera that takes a pic of everyone to see if they're yawning?

side note read Paul Murray's editorial in the West today, very interesting reading about failed road policy by both Libs and Labour.

Exactly, many people who were in support of it, in my experience, were actually driving cars valued around the 40K mark anyway. They were surprised when they were told the threshold was 57K, previously choosing to believe that Ferrari owners deserved to pay more tax..

Bascially allowing envy to get the way of the facts.

The typical Ferrari or Porsche (as so nicely pointed out by Rudd) owner isnt going to give a shit about any proposed rise....another $30-40K on a $400-500K car doesn't worry them.

So they are only really going to hurt the "poor" people.
