I might give it a go, if it ever makes it to Perth.

its WA....we might see it in 5-10yrs :p

Rexxar 17-09-2008 08:07 PM

will this make a different? possibly add another 3-5kw

RichX 17-09-2008 08:12 PM

Probably let you get a harder tune with less chance of ping - Then it's just a matter of being able to find a steady supply of it.

From what i know ethanol blended fuels:

Burn cleaner
Reduces pressure on the oil demand
I think in high concentrates is has a negative effect on the integrity of your fuel system, but would say a 10% mix would be alright.

I'm always on Ultimate98, BP have some good technical videos on the benefits of this fuel, will try the 100 but if it ever comes.

Rexxar 17-09-2008 08:18 PM

will it be more expensive thn 98 since its 100 ron but its ethanol too

The Shell 100RON fuel was supposedly quite good, however it was never available in WA.

I have sent an email to UnitedPetrol about the availability of the 100RON fuel in WA. I do hope we get it. My ECU is a Jap ECU and is tuned for 100RON (Which the Japs have had for yonks) and its currently pulling timing to compensate for the 98RON I currently use. So it will be nice to run my car on what it was tuned for.

STi is on the do not use E10 blends list... So this won't be any good to us anyway.

Shouldn't have too many/any problems with E5 or E10 afaik John, although only if you're game enough to void warranty should Subaru find out.

hmmmm. what about the shell 100Ron? That was a E5 blend IIRC. People on rexnet seemed to have good results with that before it was pulled.

How will the 10% Ethanol affect our engines?

Kato 17-09-2008 09:22 PM

Yeah the Shell was a E5.

My concern would be the change to the stoich ratio since ethanol is different to petrol. If you are running on the limits, it could make you run lean. Also you require more ethanol to reach a power figure (although you can make more power on ethanol).

How this all relates to the blends, I'm not 100% sure though...

List of cars is at: http://www.fcai.com.au/publications/all/all/all/3/capability-of-vehicles-to-satisfactorily-operate-on-ethanol-blend-petrol

There is obviously a reason if Subaru has said no to the STi, Lib GT & B4. Ok for the rest though (probably they run a bit richer, so there would be no chance of it leaning out).
