Yeah RIO have huge debt level after the Alcan takeover. Merger with BHP would have been a blessing for them really. I wouldn't be touching RIO now, they will trade at a big discount to BHP for a while to come i reckon.

How's BHPB's write down on the Ravensthorpe investment! That plant is looking well out of the money for them now the way nickel price has gone. Wouldn't surprise me to see them turn that tap off if the nickel price stays low.

I reckon thats a dead duck too, the timing couldn't have been worse for them- develop at the peak when labour/materials costs are blowing out, bring on-stream just as nickel price crashes.

How is RIO- down $22! Watch all the margin calls again tomorrow.

BHPB have a track record of developing big projects or buying them and then walking away. Magma Copper in Arizona is a classic example. Its still sitting there today rotting away. HBI in Hedland another epic fail.

Margin call city for those who bought Rio in the hopes of this deal coming thru. Hang in there boys and girls.

Woot

So far BHP up and only Rio down - have Rio in SMSF so whilst it is haemorrhaging no margin call issues.
