Audi delivers its first R8 LMS racecar.

Audi announced today that it has officially delivered the first R8 LMS racecar, with chassis number 101, to racing team Audi Sport Italia. In all, six teams will be receiving 12 cars for the 2009 season. The six teams, ABT Sportsline, Argo Racing, ORECA, Phoenix Racing, Team Rosberg and the afore mentioned Audi Sport Italia plan to run the cars in five European GT3 Championships as well as the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring, for which Audi has also specially developed an endurance version of the R8 LMS.

We’re definitely excited to see how the 500hp V-10’s stack up to the rest of the competition. We’ll keep you posted.
