How to setup a static IP address
Well hai2you all.
Over time i have typically fiddled with computers and what not and ended up building them. Now hardware, im alright with but software ive always seemed to lack compared to most (specially some injection scripters ive known etc) I was getting fustrated with being dropped off iinet recently and being given NAV errors lately so i decided id so some research and came up with how to modify your internet to get a static IP addy. So far my internet is now lightning speed. I mean instant and no longer sluggish. Crazy stuff imo. P.S. I know alot of people will laugh most likley as they are software minded but eh, i just found it myself tonight. Enjoy if it helps! http://portforward.com/networking/static-xp.htm Eric

Setting a Static IP on your LAN NIC shouldn't make any difference to your internet speed at all. Your modem will still recieve a dynamic WAN IP address most of the time that it disconnects/reconnects.
The speed is ultimately governed by your sync speed and network traffic. If you are having issue while running on a DHCP setup (automatic IP addressing) check the DHCP server and ensure the lease time is 8days or more. |

This only changes the network setup for your local computers. DHCP assigns an IP for you, but now you are assigning a static IP instead. Outside computers will still see the IP assigned to you by your ISP.
