Default Ex-Government Cars?

I was just wondering how long Government cars are kept for?

More specifically, I've seen quite a few 2009 Foresters on the road with government number plates. When (if at all) do you think these will be auctioned off? And would it be much of a saving?

Cheers,
Ben

I've bought a few ex govt cars from auctions. Both they and the other govt vehicles all had around 30/40k on the clock. So that seems to be the point at which they get rid of them. I'm sure this will vary from dept to dept though. When I first bought from auction, cars were going cheaply, but I think people have cottoned on and prices have crept up. Probably can still get a bargain, but I was seeing cars getting sold for more than they were going for in the papers. Not sure why. I think some people getting over-excited in a bidding war for a car?

Standard Govt policy is 2 years or 40km's. Whichever is first. If you can get them at the right price they are generally a good thing. Full dealer service history etc. Always replaced with good tyres etc.

Depends on department Brendon - we have a 3 year or 80 000km policy here.

Water Corp use alot of the Forresters, ill see if i can track down the 100% correct info

But yes, they are fully serviced on time, repairs with genuine parts, any accidents repaired at proper places, since we no give a fark for cost

Correct me if im wrong, but as part of the government cutback, the public servant vehicle fleet is being greatly reduced

Could have quite a bit of choice in the next 6 months to a year

Depends Chris -

For some departments, yeah there will be cuts.

But some essential services require a vehicle for the staff member, cant really take those away.

Regardless, theres still alot of vehicles around the place!
